Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bishop, age 96, of Rome

Mary Elizabeth Bishop, age 96, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017.Mrs. Bishop was born in Plainville, GA, on October 4, 1920, daughter of the late Marcus Thomas Thacker and the late Mary Lou Kilgore Thacker. She had spent the greater part of her life in Floyd County and had been employed by Champion Garment Company for 10 years and was later retired from Kay-towne Antenna. She enjoyed cooking, baking cakes and pies and also loved quilting. She was the most loving and giving person that loved the Lord and attended church regularly as long as she was able. She lived in the Dykes Creek Community for most of her life, moving to the Lindale area where she spent the last 13 years. She had been a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Kingston, the Friendship Baptist Church, Rome, the Tabernacle Church, where her late son, Rev. Windle Bishop, was the Pastor. She was the oldest member of the Dykes Creek Baptist Church but in her later years she attended the Hollywood Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Bishop, to whom she was married on October 17, 1935, and he passed away in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son, Rev. Windle Bishop; a granddaughter, Karen Gail Flemming; and by siblings, John L. Thacker, Frank Thacker, M.T. Thacker, Helen Standridge, Rose Cardella, Sarah Stalvey, Bessie Wheeler, Jessie Kilgore, Odessa White, Clifford, Hubert, Marvin and Morris Thacker.Survivors include; 3 daughters, Jennie Pruitt (Donald), Alpharetta, Doris Fleming (Fred), Rome and Lynn Baker (Mike), Lindale, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Bishop, Kingston; a brother, Charles Lee Thacker (Winnie), Jonesboro; 2 sisters, Fran Walker (Kenneth), Kennesaw, and Margaret Busby, Rome; 11 grandchildren, Matt Bevels, Liz Pollock, Suzanne Hooker, Mark Bishop, James Fleming, Jeff Smith, Denise Brenner, Lauren Denning Hankins, Jeff, Ben, and Melissa Baker; 12 great grandchildren, Isaiah Bevels, Rachel and Jacob Pollock, Ashleigh Vaughn, Miles Hooker, Lee Blair, Travis Fleming, Dax Bis...
